What DHL asks for
DHL publishes the fields of a commercial invoice in its US guide, dated July 14, 2026. The guide groups them in three parts: "Shipping reference details", "Information about each party involved" and "A full description of the shipment and its value". The table above lists each field under DHL's words, and the generator uses them.
For each item, DHL lists seven details: "Goods descriptions", "Harmonized system code (HS Code)", "Country of origin (COO)", "Quantity and unit of measure (UOM)", "Unit and sub-total value (in USD)", "Unit net weight (Lbs or Kgs)" and the "Shipment summary".
A few fields only DHL's guide lists:
- Type of Export: "Permanent", "Temporary" or "Repair & Return".
- Export/Import License Number, when your goods need one.
- Payment method: for example a credit card or a wire transfer.
The air waybill number
DHL writes: "For DHL Express, the AWB number is 10 digits." Copy it from your label.
When you book in MyDHL+
DHL also says: "MyDHL+ automatically generates a commercial invoice as you book your shipment." Use this tool when you need the invoice before you book, want it in Word or Excel, or ship with another carrier too.
For the fields of other carriers, see the commercial invoice page.
