Stripe invoice fee

Stripe has two invoice fees on top of its payment fees. Here they are in Stripe's own words, with the arithmetic and where the $2 cap starts.

Checked on October 23, 2026

Fee 1: an invoice after a Checkout or Payment Link payment

If you turn on invoices for one-time payments in Stripe Checkout or Payment Links, Stripe charges per invoice: "The pricing for this feature is 0.4% of the transaction total, up to a maximum of $2 USD (or local currency equivalent) per invoice" (Stripe Support, read 18 October 2026). For subscriptions, the same article says the feature "is included in Stripe Billing pricing".

The same article adds: "Post-payment invoices are not an Invoicing feature and are priced separately."

Fee 2: Stripe Invoicing

Stripe Invoicing, the product for invoices that you send to customers to pay, lists two plans on its pricing page: Starter at "0.4%" and Plus at "0.5%" "Per paid invoice" (Stripe Invoicing pricing, read 18 October 2026). We found no cap on that page. Stripe also says: "Stripe Invoicing has no fixed fees or setup costs, but Stripe Payments pricing will apply."

The arithmetic

The post-payment fee is 0.4% of the payment, and it stops growing at $2. 0.4% of $500 is $2, so the cap starts at a $500 payment. Below it, the fee is 0.4%; above it, $2.

Payment Post-payment invoice (0.4%, $2 cap) Invoicing Starter (0.4%, no cap found)
$9 $0.04 $0.04
$29 $0.12 $0.12
$99 $0.40 $0.40
$490 $1.96 $1.96
$500 $2.00 $2.00
$2,000 $2.00 $8.00

The amounts are rounded to the cent. A seller with 1,000 sales of $29 a month pays $116 to $120 a month in post-payment invoice fees: 1,000 × $0.116, or 1,000 × $0.12 if each fee is rounded to the cent.

The payment fees stay

These invoice fees come on top of Stripe's payment fees. InvoiceCow does not change the payment fees: Stripe processes the payment as before, and InvoiceCow never touches the money.

Invoices without a per-invoice fee

InvoiceCow reads your Stripe payments and turns each one into an invoice in your company's name, with no fee per invoice and no cap on invoices. Your buyers add their own company details after they pay. See Stripe invoice for how it works.

InvoiceCow is not affiliated with Stripe. Stripe is a trademark of its owner. Stripe's prices change: check the linked pages before you decide.
